Drumheller Wedding | Ashley and Kyle

I have been waiting for this wedding for a while. Ashley and Kyle are pretty much the cutest little lovebirds ever (you can see their engagement session HERE). I mean, they make most people sick with how lovey they are (kinda like me and Chad) but what they have is REAL and genuine. We even had to get them to stop smiling for a few photos! It was hard!

The wedding was in Drumheller, Alberta…which happens to be a very cool place! When Chad and I arrived on Friday we were so excited about all the cool things there that we could use as backdrops during our time with the bride and groom. Once again, I present a ginormous blog post because it was extremely difficult to narrow it down. I originally selected 65 to blog, so now you get 38. Enjoy.

Ashley got ready at the house she grew up in, on a rural property shared with her grandparents.

Chad and I found this quite amazing. Who knew, that when this barn was built decades ago, the position in which these two boards were nailed together would perfectly hold Ashley’s wedding dress symmetrically between the two windows. Kind of like it was meant to be.

The canola field beside the family farm was gorgeous, and a perfect compliment to the green dresses and flowers!Apparently their mom hates it when they make this face. I think they are stinking cute. Sorry Lynn

As I was taking the shot above, I told the girls not to worry about what to do with their face as I was just shooting the flowers. Below is what they did. Thanks to Chad for getting this shot, it’s hilarious!

This was my first time getting in a tree to take photos. I’d say it was worth it. Thanks Ashley and Kyle for having Chad and I shoot your VERY special day. It means a lot to us to have such an important job. Much love. xo

I’m on vacation right now, supposed to be taking a break from all the editing and shooting this summer. I went to visit one of my BFFs and of course I made her dress up, wear my cowboy boots and we made a ‘bouquet’ out of weeds.

Jasper Wedding | Tricia and Adam

Tricia and Adam were married today at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. My goodness is this place ever breathtaking. Tricia is the happiest woman I’ve ever met, and she wore an absolutely stunning Pronovias gown that fit her like a dream.

Edmonton Wedding | Angela + Matt

Angela and Matt were married on Saturday July 10 at The Citadel Theatre in Edmonton. What a gorgeous couple! Here are a few teasers from their big day.

The high fives were a natural next move after the first kiss. So cute.

After the ceremony we took a little drive into the country to take some photos. I took this one as the car was speeding along a dirt road. It should be noted that Chad was driving, I’m not coordinated enough to drive and take photos.

This shot was Chad’s idea. He kept telling me to take a photo of the ‘gun’ outside the Officer’s Mess (it was some kind of tank looking thing, sorry military peeps I have no idea what this was!). So we put the rings in there and voila. Yes dear you were right, it is a pretty awesome shot.

The sun briefly peeked through the skylights and shone directly onto the cupcakes as if the heavens were saying ‘eat the cupcakes, they are delicious’. And they were.

A while ago I emailed my friend Julianne Cragg from A Modern Proposal to talk to her about wedding decor. A few of my brides had told me how overwhelmed they were with the planning process, and they were feeling frustrated with their options for decor because they didn’t have an unlimited wedding budget. Sure there is lots of inspiration out there, but where does a bride start?

I knew Julianne could help me put together some great information for brides. We both share an obsession for all things Etsy, and we are pretty darn good with DIY projects (if we do say so ourselves). With a little creativity you can have a magazine worthy wedding.

Wedding Décor with Impact

Weddings don’t have to be expensive, difficult, or over-the-top to have an impact. All it takes is a little bit of time and some creativity.

There are numerous websites out there with templates for name cards, table numbers, escort cards, invites, menus etc. There are also some fabulous local artists that can assist you. Personally I love creating a theme and pulling it all together with little details.

By taking the time to incorporate a bit of the two of you into your wedding day, you will create a truly unique experience. It’s the little details that add up to create an amazing event.

Take the desert buffet that is served, why not spice it up and speak to your venue about putting out desserts that reflect your tastes and theme? How about providing some beautiful serving dishes and decorate the table.

Take the time to shop around to find the little things to add to your wedding (Superstore, HomeSense and Michael’s are my favourite).

Take these picture frames for example – $1.50 at Michael’s.

Satin table cloths are beautiful – don’t get me wrong. But ribbon is a fabulous way to add a pop of color for much less money.

Step out of the box, sure the wedding stores have nice wedding items but don’t limit yourself to those stores they do mark up items because they said
‘wedding’ on them, have you ever tried a scrapbook store? I personally prefer Treasured Memories (www.treausredmemories.typepad.com). They have an incredible amount of paper (patterns, solid, and specialty), and it’s usually less expensive than Michaels.

Again we’ve all seen the napkins in the glasses, try something different. I’ve simply rolled the napkins and placed a fabric napkin ring on it -what an impact. You can do the same with paper.

How could you not love these cute place cards (escort cards/name tags)? As simple as printing out your guest list on paper, cutting it in strips and curling the edges – simple yet your guests will notice.

The center piece is my favourite. You don’t have to have flowers for centerpieces; in this case I used fabric hand made flowers.

Finally, I must recommend, at the very least, you hire a wedding coordinator for your wedding day. You have invested so much time into your wedding; the least you should do is enjoy it. A wedding coordinator/planner will ensure that all the details are taken care of and that you and your groom and enjoy the day and not worry about a detail. Plus they have a good eye for detail and a good knowledge for saving money.

Marsha + Ryan {wed} | Blairmore, Alberta

Marsha and Ryan were married on October 26 at 1030am. I had to check several times then re-check just to make sure I had the date right (it was a Monday). I have a fear of mixing up dates…which I think is probably normal for anyone who works in the wedding industry! Their wedding was held at the Crowsnest Christian Centre in Coleman, Alberta which is right on the border of Alberta and BC, but also near Sparwood which is where I lived for a year when I was 15/16. I haven’t been back to that area since we moved away…which for the record was quite a while ago, like 12 years! I forgot how pretty the area was, with the mountains surrounding you. Chad and I drove in on the Sunday evening from Edmonton and got settled in our vacation rental. It was so cozy and the owner was so sweet, definitely felt more at home than if we would have stayed in a hotel. When we awoke in the morning we discovered that mother nature had something special in store for the big day…big fluffy wet flakes were falling from the sky.

We arrived at the church and took some detail shots while Marsha was getting ready:

Ok – there may or may not have been some goofing around while the boys were waiting for everyone to arrive.

Making the final touches

Marsha is my first bride to wear a veil over her face. I have been dying to do a shot like this one. She is just gorgeous.

They caught a peek of each other just before Marsha walked down the aisle with her parents. LOVE the expressions.

The wedding was very personal – Marsha’s father is the pastor of the church and performed the ceremony. Everyone had a few tears of joy that day! I may have shed a couple…

Because of their Christian faith, Marsha and Ryan waited until their wedding to kiss! And since I’m the kissy queen you know I made them kiss A LOT! Woo Hoo!

These next two shots are my favorites from the entire day. I love the look in Marsha’s eyes as she looks at her husband.

We went to the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre to see what kind of images we could create. Definitely a cool place to shoot!

More goofing around…I’m totally unsure of what’s going on here but it looks like balloon animals minus the balloon!

I thought this was so cute so I had to get a picture of it.

Any girl getting married will figure out a way to use her new married name or ‘Mrs’ as soon as possible. Way to go Marsha, LOVE IT!
