Paula and I met via social media. I can’t remember if it was through Facebook or Twitter…one of the two. I scored a last minute spot at Jesh de Rox’s Life as an Artform workshop, and since I wasn’t financially prepared for a big trip to Seattle I tried to figure out ways that I could possibly save some money so I could afford to go on this life changing trip. I put it out to the twitterverse that I was looking for someone to share a hotel room with and Paula came to my rescue. We had never met in person before, just had been connected through Facebook and Twitter. Granted, we both were taking big risks by agreeing to share a room since we’d never met before, I mean, look what she got herself into. She had to put up with crazy lil’ me for 4 days! haha!!

Taking chances can really pay off and I have learned this time and time again. I have a new, incredible friend in Paula. She is an amazing, loving, beautiful, strong and intelligent woman that I am proud to call my friend.

We had to reschedule this shoot like 2 or 3 times because of the stupid weather! Paula wanted sunny photos, and since sunshine is my favoritest thing EVAR I was totally cool with rescheduling (yes I just made up a word).

Waiting for this day was SO WORTH IT.

Paula was nice enough to laugh at my dumb jokes, that’s what friends are for.

I have so many favorites from our session but I’d say that this is one of my top faves:

Edmonton Engagement Photos | Lisa + Ryan

Lisa and Ryan are getting married on June 26…and guess who’s their photographer?? Me!! Yay! I am so pumped to shoot their wedding later this month, it’s going to be a blast. They are such a fun couple and their friends are super fun too. I’ve been warned about rediculous people, potential pants dropping and a motorhome to transport the wedding party. I have a feeling that my stomach is going to hurt on June 27, from laughing so hard all day at their wedding! I can’t wait.

They live in St. Albert, not too far from me actually, and I found a place about 5 minutes from our neighbourhood that worked well. We went for some more “Alberta-esque” (read – barn) shots for the engagements because we’re going to go for some city shots at their wedding.

The most random thing I’ve ever seen – about 50 dead lawnmowers in piles. We dubbed it “The Lawnmower Graveyard”.

Conor and Carilynn are friends of ours and their baby is due any day now! We did a quick session a couple weeks ago in a gorgeous little trail by our house in St. Albert…we had to reschedule twice due to crummy weather, but thankfully Mother Nature finally cooperated and gave us some nice light to shoot in. These two are so excited to become parents, and this little baby is going to be so loved.

Edmonton Portraits | The J Family

Last week Chad and I got together with the J family (aka, Chad’s sister, Jayda, her hubby Ryan and their daughter Grace) to take some photos. They are expecting a new little person to join their family very soon, in the next couple of weeks! We are all very excited to meet her…and I can’t wait to be an auntie again. I love being an auntie.

We started off just doing some relaxed portraits of Jayda and Ryan:

Little miss decided she wanted to get her photo taken in a couple too.

Nope. Not happening.

The photo below had me laughing when I was culling through my shots. Everyone’s expression says it all. Especially Grace. I just love that little stinker.

Edmonton Portraits | Carla + Drew

You know you’re going to have an awesome session when one of your first photos looks like this.

I met Carla at one of Rob + Lauren‘s Chill Sessions. We both learned so much that day and we ended up getting together soon afterwards to chat and get to know each other. In case you haven’t guessed it yet, Carla is another photographer here in Edmonton, Electric Green Photography.

ANYWAY.

Carla and Drew met in Hawaii, can you believe that? They are both from Edmonton but happened to bump into each other while vacationing on the Islands. Crazy stuff I tell you. I think it’s such an awesome story but mostly because Hawaii is my favorite place….I may be biased though because I was married there

They have been married almost 2 years now and they are proud parents to an absolutely beautiful little girl. They are head over heels for each other and with their daughter. They are the cutest little family.

We shot their session in their neighborhood in North Edmonton. We couldn’t have asked for better weather either, the temperature was just comfortable, the light was delicious and they were in the mood to have some fun too.

Apparently Carla’s hair smells good. Get a good sniff Drew!!

Near the end of the session I decided we were way too serious, so we played a little game.

Seattle | Mimi

Gosh I have been so busy these last few weeks…I haven’t had time to blog these photos! Mimi is an incredible photographer based in Seattle, and was at Jesh de Rox’s workshop – Life As An Artform. One of the exercises during the workshop was to partner up and take photos of each other. I won’t tell you the method we used to capture the images (you’ll have to take the workshop to find out!), but I CAN tell you it was a pretty incredible and moving experience. I can’t wait to do it again

PS – Mimi is totally gorgeous, don’t you think?!

Danielle + Cole | Vancouver portrait session

Over the last few months I have learned so much. I feel like I am really coming into my own, not only as a photographer but as an artist. I feel love within me as I shoot and I think about how I can tell the story of the people I am photographing. Being an interpreter of sorts is what makes me love photography so much. I get to bring an understanding between the world and my subject(s).

Danielle and Cole are two young, beautiful newlyweds. I had the pleasure of photographing them downtown Vancouver a few weeks ago when I was in town for my birthday.

I can set up different types of shots, pose my subjects, tell them what to do, etc. but I can’t just tell someone, hey, feel happy right now so I can take a picture of you feeling happy. Sounds silly doesn’t it? You can’t fake real happiness – the little smirk, and the lines around your eyes. Most of the time we go about our lives with these walls up and nobody gets to see the ‘real’ us. That’s why it’s so special to me that, even for a moment, I got to see this, and now I get to share the art that is their love with the rest of the world.

Leah Stafford | Mexico

Leah and I ‘met’ each other about 2 years ago through an online message board about Destination Weddings, because we both had one. Leah has been a mentor to me through this last year and a half while I stumble and soar through photography. She has also become one of my best friends. I’m kinda weird and she gets my sense of humor. Every time we get together we get the giggles…we’ve been threatened by flight attendants at 6am, received countless evil glares and we ALWAYS have great stories to tell after our adventures. I’ve had the pleasure of assisting Leah at 2 destination weddings – the Bahamas last year and Cancun this week. I’ve also been able to witness her boudoir magic in New York City. She’s an amazing photographer and a dear friend.

Of course, when we get together we like to play cameras. This time we actually got ourselves dressed up and shot portraits of each other. You can check out the photos she shot of me on her blog.

Photographing my friend was a lot of fun. I also was able to try some new processing techniques to really bring out the feeling in each image. Some of the images are a bit different from my normal style but I really like the artistic direction I have taken with them. Please let me know what you think in the comments below.
